Why Magnetic Innovations Invested in ISO 14001

When people think about electric motors and motion systems, sustainability is often not the first thing that comes to mind.

Yet behind every motor are materials, suppliers, transport routes, manufacturing processes, and eventually end-of-life products. As industries continue to place greater emphasis on environmental responsibility, these aspects are becoming increasingly important.

Engineering innovation and environmental responsibility

At Magnetic Innovations, we believe that engineering innovation and environmental responsibility should go hand in hand. As our organisation continues to grow, we wanted to take a more structured approach to understanding, managing, and reducing our environmental impact.

That ambition led us to invest in ISO 14001, the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems.

Today, we are proud to announce that Magnetic Innovations has successfully achieved ISO 14001 certification. The certification marks an important milestone in our sustainability journey and reflects our commitment to continuously improving the way we operate, work with suppliers, and support our customers.

Sustainability as Part of Daily Operations

For us, obtaining the certification was never about adding another logo to our website. Quality and continuous improvement have always been part of how we operate, which is reflected in our ISO 9001-certified quality management system.

ISO 14001 was therefore a natural next step, allowing us to apply the same structured mindset to understanding and improving our environmental impact. It helped us to take a closer look at our own organisation and asking important questions: “How can we reduce waste, make better use of materials and contribute to a more circular economy?”

Over the past year, we have further professionalised our environmental management approach and implemented several initiatives, including:

  • Registration and monitoring of waste streams
  • Analysis of transportation movements and logistics activities
  • Evaluation of suppliers on environmental and sustainability criteria
  • Further development of our magnet take-back and recycling initiatives
  • Establishment of environmental objectives and continuous improvement processes

These measures help us better understand where we can reduce environmental impact while maintaining the high quality and reliability our customers expect.

Working Together with Our Supply Chain

Environmental responsibility extends beyond our own facilities. For that reason, sustainability is increasingly becoming an important factor in our supplier evaluation process.

By working closely with suppliers and encouraging responsible practices throughout the supply chain, we aim to strengthen transparency, improve environmental performance, and support long-term sustainable growth.

Recycling Magnets: Supporting a More Circular Future

One area that is particularly important to us is magnet recycling. Permanent magnets contain valuable raw materials, and we see increasing opportunities to recover and reuse these materials rather than treating them as waste.

By supporting recycling initiatives and exploring more circular solutions, we aim to help customers make more sustainable choices throughout the product lifecycle.

As demand grows for responsible sourcing and improved material traceability, circular approaches will play an increasingly important role in the future of the industry.

Continuous Improvement

But this milestone is not a finish line. Because sustainability is not achieved through just a certificate. It is achieved through continuous improvement.

It is a framework that helps us to reduce environmental impact while delivering the high-performance motion solutions our customers rely on.

More importantly, it helps us embed environmental awareness throughout the entire organisation. Sustainability is not the responsibility of a single department or a small group of specialists.

Our ambition is to make sustainability part of our company culture. Whether it is engineering, purchasing, operations, sales, or management, every department has a role to play in identifying opportunities for improvement and reducing environmental impact.
