A direct drive torque motor is a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Hence, the load is directly driven without the use of a gearbox or transmission. This reduces the number of moving parts, and thereby increases the operational lifetime and efficiency of the application. Compared to induction motors with the same volume/weight, the peak point energy efficiency of frameless high torque motors is much higher. Magnetic Innovations offers a wide range of standard frameless high torque motors for many industrial applications.
Direct drive motors are ideal for applications where a high positioning accuracy is needed and small size, low weight, minimum power and optimal speed control is desired.
With the use of our magnetic and thermal simulation software, our frameless high torque outrunner motors are designed to produce unmatched performance.Magnetic Innovations is specialised in the outrunner typology. Compared to inrunners, outrunner direct drive torque motors are capable of producing more torque and are more efficient. Moreover, the MI-F series are characterized by extremely low cogging and good thermal performance.
To maximize the torque of our direct drive motors, we use innovative winding configurations combined with optimized permanent magnet technology. A 3-phase sinusoidal current amplifier can be used in combination with the torque motor, which guarantees smooth rotation with low torque ripple.

Direct Drive Torque Motors by Magnetic Innovations
Magnetic Innovations offers more than 100 torque motors suitable for a wide range of applications. In our standard MI-F series range we offer a variety of outer diameters and motor heights combined with a variety of winding designs.
Our standard frameless torque motors, the MI-F series, are available in three outer diameters: 110, 250 and 485 mm (~4.3, 9.8, and 191 inch, respectively). Furthermore, each series is available in standard motor heights off 25 mm, 50 mm and 75 mm (~1, 2, and 3 inch). The range of continuous torque is covered between 4Nm and 796Nm and peak torque between 14Nm and 1143Nm. The MI-F series are designed for a wide RPM range.
We have successfully designed and built numerous custom torque motors for different operational conditions. If our standard torque motor series are not adequate for your application, it is also possible to develop a customized motor. Our motor can be customized in a variety of ways. For example, in size, cooling options, rpm and torque.

What are the advantages of using a direct drive torque motor?
Direct drive technology achieves a very high lifetime and high efficiency. For direct drive torque motors inertia is low, which makes the motors very suitable for high speed, acceleration applications with fast starts and stops.
What is the torque of the MI-F Torque motor series?
Depending on the model the Continuous torque is between 4Nm and 796Nm. The peak torque is between 14Nm and 1143Nm.
What does frameless torque motor mean?
Frameless refers to a motor without a frame, housing, bearing or feedback system. As a result, system suppliers are capable of optimizing the motor according to their application and reduce the cost of ownership.
